Lessons in Growth, Perseverance, and Open-Mindedness - Sunbeam School Ballia

How people grow, change, and step into new roles, often surprising those around them. Schascha reveals that she no longer works at the bookshop and has moved beyond that chapter of her life, underscoring that growth sometimes means leaving familiar places and expectations behind. Carl's surprise shows how we often hold onto outdated versions of people, assuming they haven't changed. Their interaction highlights that moving forward requires courage, planning, and a willingness to let others see who we are becoming, not who we used to be.

We often judge others based on appearances or preconceived notions, yet those assumptions can be completely wrong. The character expected the book-delivery woman to be "plain" or unimpressive based on her job, but was surprised to find that she was confident, capable, and even charming. This moment challenges the narrator's biases and shows how easily we underestimate people simply because of the roles they play or how they are presented to us. It is a reminder that every person carries depth, skill, and personality that cannot be measured by first impressions, and that staying open-minded can lead to unexpected respect or admiration.

Themes of guilt, regret, and the desire for redemption also appear. Carl's harshness toward others and his emotional distance leave lasting effects not only on the people he pushes away but also on himself. Meanwhile, Scheacha's determination to "rewrite" events like a story shows her longing to restore what was broken, proving how deeply she cares and how strongly hope can motivate change. The contrast between Carl's withdrawal and Scheacha's persistence underscores how human connection can either wither or be rebuilt depending on the choices people make.

Today's session taught me some valuable lessons that can help us grow in life. One of the most important things I understood is that failure is not the end. If we fail in our first attempt, we should not lose hope. Every outstanding achievement begins with trying again.

Another important lesson is the power of persistence. When we continue working towards our dreams without giving up, success eventually comes our way. Hard work and consistency are the genuine keys to reaching our goals.

My Reflection on Today's Session

First Session
My Good School Alliance session today was one of the most interesting sessions. We had two great personalities with us. Firstly, we had Mr Jugjiv Singh. He asked students to read their own reflections. Then he continued the story, The Door to Door Bookstore. His reading voice was really inspiring and lovely. The story was all about how books can connect people and help them share knowledge in a fun and entertaining way. This class was really knowledgeable.

Second Session
After Mr Jugjiv's class, we automatically changed to Mrs Manisha Khanna's class. Firstly, we had a short and wonderful quiz with her. Then she read the story रणजी का शानदार बल्ला. I learnt many new things in this story.

  1. We should not give up if we do not achieve our goal in the first step.

  2. We should never lose hope and give up.
This class was really full of values.

At the end, both sessions were really eye-opening, full of morals and emotions. I would like to thank
Mr Jugjiv Singh
for giving us this opportunity to enhance our reading and vocabulary.

Thank you.

Roots, Circuits, and Stories: Lessons on Growth, Connection, and Being Human - Sunbeam Varuna

1. Lessons of The Hidden Life of Trees:

Trees are interconnected through fungal networks, showing us the importance of building strong relationships and community. Trees adapt to harsh weather conditions, pests, and diseases, teaching us to be resilient in the face of challenges. They bend and flex in strong winds, demonstrating the value of being flexible and adaptable.
Trees grow slowly and steadily over time, showing us the importance of patience and perseverance in achieving our goals. They provide shade, shelter, food, and oxygen for countless creatures, teaching us the value of selflessness and giving to others.
Trees go through cycles of growth, decay, and rebirth, reminding us to accept and embrace change and impermanence.
Trees have been on our planet for millions of years, holding ancient wisdom and knowledge that can teach us about the importance of preserving traditional knowledge and respecting the natural world.
Trees live in harmony with their environment, showing us the importance of living in balance with nature and respecting the interconnectedness of all living things.
These lessons from The Hidden Life of Trees can inspire us to live more mindful, compassionate, and sustainable lives.

2. A fascinating topic! AI vs AI

It refers to the competition, collaboration, or comparison between different artificial intelligence systems. This can happen in various domains, such as:
AI-powered agents are competing against each other in games like chess, Go, or video games. Different AI algorithms or models are competing to achieve better performance, accuracy, or efficiency.
AI has introduced chatbots or language models engaging in conversations, debating, or generating text. It controls robots competing in tasks like navigation, manipulation, or human-robot interaction.
The AI vs AI paradigm leads to improved performance through competition. These systems can push each other to improve.
Collaboration between AI systems can lead to new ideas, approaches, or solutions. Testing AI systems against each other can help identify vulnerabilities and improve overall robustness.
AI vs AI also raises concerns about: AI systems may perpetuate or amplify existing biases when competing or collaborating. Unintended consequences or loss of control may arise when AI systems interact or compete. Questions about accountability, transparency, and human oversight become increasingly important.

The AI vs AI landscape is rapidly evolving, with potential applications in fields like:
Education — adaptive learning systems, Healthcare — diagnosis, treatment, or patient care, Cybersecurity — threat detection, response, or mitigation.
Thus, as AI continues to advance, the AI vs AI dynamic will play an increasingly important role in shaping the future of artificial intelligence.

1. Why does the book focus so much on the role of community and different communities in India?

My Name is Cinnamon emphasises the role of community and different communities in India because it uses the protagonist's experiences navigating various social groups within Indian society to explore themes of identity, belonging, and acceptance, particularly for adopted children, highlighting how different communities can impact one's life and sense of self within a complex social landscape.

Key points about the book's focus on community:
Social dynamics:
The story delves into the nuances of class, caste, and regional differences within India, showing how these factors can influence Cinnamon's interactions and experiences.

Family and kinship:
The concept of family extends beyond the immediate nuclear unit, with the extended family and community playing a significant role in Cinnamon's life.

Adoption narrative:
As an adopted child, Cinnamon's search for belonging is deeply tied to his understanding of his biological family and the community he is adopted into.

School environment:
The school setting provides a microcosm of Indian society, showcasing the dynamics between different social groups and how Cinnamon navigates them.

2. How did you come up with the name "Cinnamon" for the main character?

The name "Cinnamon" evokes warmth, comfort, and a sense of sweetness. It's a unique and memorable name that suggests a character who is:

Warm and nurturing, with a caring personality.
Comforting and soothing, with a calming presence.
Sweet and gentle, with a kind heart.

In a story, Cinnamon could be a character who brings people together, provides solace in times of need, and adds a touch of warmth and sweetness to those around her.

3. When do you think is the best time to tell an adopted child about their adoption?

The ideal time to tell an adopted child about their adoption varies depending on the child's age, maturity, and individual development. Here are some general guidelines:
Start sharing simple, age-appropriate information about their adoption story, using positive and reassuring language.
Gradually provide more details about their adoption, encouraging questions and open discussions.
Engage in more in-depth discussions about their adoption, exploring emotions, and addressing potential concerns.

When discussing adoption with a child, consider the following:

  • Be honest, open, and positive.

  • Use simple, clear language.

  • Validate their feelings and emotions.

  • Be prepared for ongoing conversations.

  • Respect their boundaries and pace.

It's necessary to remember — every child is unique, and the right time to discuss adoption will depend on their individual needs and developmental stage.

4. How should an adopted child react if they are being bullied at school?

Bullying is a sensitive and serious issue that must be stopped at its initial step. Everyone's respect must be followed and cared for well. When an adopted child goes through bullying at school, he has no way to go ahead but to tolerate and suffer.
He takes a few deep breaths and tries not to react impulsively. He tries to find a trusted adult, such as a teacher, school counsellor, or parent, and report the bullying.
If someone is bullying, he must share emotions and concerns with a trusted adult or friend. He should write downhis  thoughts and feelings to process and release emotions. He must try to celebrate individual strengths, talents, and accomplishments. He should surround himself with positive, supportive friends and family.
If bullying is related to adoption, talk to a trusted adult about how to address these specific comments or behaviours. He must share positive aspects of his adoption story with friends and family to promote understanding and pride.

Stop...
Bullying is not okay.

No one deserves to be bullied, and it's not the child's fault.

Adoption is a positive experience.
Adoption is a loving and selfless act that provides a child with a forever family.

5. What strategies can aspiring writers implement to balance quality and quantity in their writing process?

The general strategies for balancing quality and quantity in writing... very first we will talk about quality-oriented steps to be taken...

Set clear goals and deadlines:
Establish specific, achievable objectives for each writing session.

Develop a writing routine:
Create a consistent schedule to ensure dedicated time for writing.

Outline and plan:
Organise ideas, structure, and plot before starting to write.

Revise and edit:
Allocate time for reviewing, revising, and editing to refine your work.

Seek feedback:
Share your work with others to receive constructive feedback and improve.

Now we have to discuss quantity-focused steps to be followed:

Write regularly:
Commit to a regular writing schedule, even if it's just 10–15 minutes a day.

Use writing prompts:
Utilise prompts or exercises to generate new ideas and stay motivated.

Set word count targets:
Challenge yourself to write a certain number of words within a set timeframe.

Practice freewriting:
Write freely without stopping or worrying about grammar, spelling, or perfection.

Experiment with different formats:
Try writing in different styles, such as poetry, short stories, or journalism.

By implementing these strategies, aspiring writers can set a balance between quality and quantity, leading to improved productivity, creativity, and overall writing success.

Lessons from Animals and Life - Sunbeam Suncity School

Sunday School by My Good School turned out to be an enlightening session. Today, we explored the inner life of animals, realising that just like humans, animals too need care and compassion to survive. They are not naturally harmful; rather, it is often our mistreatment that makes them appear dangerous. We also learned about the behavioural patterns of animals and how these connect with human behaviour in many ways.
—Atharv Singh Chauhan

Animals, like wild boars crossing rivers to escape hunters, show how fear can drive intelligent behaviour for survival. Similarly, in human life, fear can act as both a warning signal and a motivator to adapt wisely to challenges.
—Yuvraj Singh

Today's discussion on goals, skills, passion, discipline, and perseverance highlights that success is never accidental—it is the result of clear direction, consistent effort, and the right mindset. Just like animals rely on instinct and practice, humans thrive when preparation meets persistence.
—Rishi Agrawal

Today, we learnt about the importance of addressing individuals correctly, along with the evolving nature of titles, reminding us that respect and acknowledgement shape relationships. Just as behaviour defines animals and humans alike, our words and manners define how we are perceived in society.
—Rishabh Singh

Animals often mirror their surroundings—gentle when nurtured, hostile when threatened. Humans, too, react to their environment; a supportive setting brings out positivity, while a toxic one can create negativity. This highlights the deep link between behaviour and environment.

Beyond Books: Life Lessons from Sunday School - Jayant Raj

Yesterday’s Sunday school session was more than just an ordinary reading activity—it taught me something far more valuable than what we usually learn in school. Reading The Door-to-Door Bookstore gave me insights into managing my emotions. However, what truly stood out was when Manisha Ma’am spoke about a topic that, in my opinion, is often overlooked in education: the five essential skills every student should develop.

This topic deserves much more attention and should be promoted in every school, as it helps students stay focused on their goals while fostering self-awareness and resilience.

Summary of "Candle Light" – My Name is Cinnamon by Vikas Prakash Joshi

In this chapter, Cinnamon’s biological parents receive important and concerning news about his health. They learn from his adoptive parents that Cinnamon has a genetic condition that may cause him to lose his eyesight around the age of 40 and could also lead to hearing impairment. This revelation is deeply emotional for both the  parents, as they process the implications of his condition and think about his future.

The candlelight in the chapter symbolizes both vulnerability and hope, just as a candle flickers but continues to glow, Cinnamon’s journey is uncertain but still filled with love and strength. His adoptive parents’ concern and love for him are evident as they grapple with this information, reinforcing the theme that family is built on care and emotional bonds. The chapter highlights themes of resilience, unconditional love, and the importance of support in facing life’s uncertainties.

Reflection Questions

  1. How do Cinnamon’s biological parent react to the news about his genetic condition?
  2. What does the candlelight symbolize in this chapter, and how does it relate to Cinnamon’s journey?
  3. How does this chapter highlight the difference between biological and emotional bonds in a family?
  4. What can we learn from Cinnamon’s parents about handling difficult and uncertain situations?
  5. How would you support a loved one if they were facing a similar challenge?

Sunbeam School Reflections - 1st December 2024

Cinnamon’s journey of self-discovery is one of growth and resilience, shaped by moments of doubt, struggle, and revelation. At first, he felt lost, unsure of who he was or where he belonged. Each challenge he faced—whether external or internal—pushed him to dig deeper, to confront fears and insecurities he had long ignored.

There were moments of heartbreak but also joy as Cinnamon began to understand his true self. He learned to embrace his imperfections, find strength in vulnerability, and see obstacles not as barriers but as opportunities to grow.

By the end of his journey, Cinnamon wasn’t just someone who had found answers—he had found peace in the questions. His story is a reminder that self-discovery is messy and beautiful.

There are many dimensions to every person - Aria Gupta

You might be wondering - why I haven't written this article in story form. It's because this topic has many details to consider. And I think that it's hard to convert it into a good story.

Moving on to the topic, we first need to define the meaning of dimensions. Dimensions may imply different things to different people. It could refer to their life responsibilities (mother, friend, etc.) or personality characteristics and traits. Ultimately, the dimensions of a person cover the numerous qualities that comprise a person.

In my opinion, every role has a dimension that includes attributes. A student's role, for example, may involve characteristics such as procrastination or being studious (the traits vary from person to person). These characteristics and dimensions - create and define the individual's identity and contribute to their unique personality. People's dimensions can also include their talents and abilities, such as creative or intellectual ability. attributes

I won't say that our physical appearance is counted as a dimension; in reality, a person's true worth lies within their character and capabilities. These dimensions shape how individuals interact with the world around them and influence their behaviour and decision-making.

Moreover, they play a crucial role in determining one's personal and professional growth, as they impact one's motivation, resilience, and overall well-being. Therefore, it is essential to recognise and nurture those dimensions to embrace and express one's true self.

To sum it up, dimensions refer to various roles of a person, including different life responsibilities, personality traits, talents, and abilities. They shape behaviour, decision-making, motivation, resilience, and overall well-being and are crucial for personal and professional success. Recognising and nurturing these dimensions is essential.
