"Shabby Old School" - Rishona Chopra

Embracing your school is quite important. Whatever school you go into must have something special about it. Like Tomoe, it gives you the freedom to choose, and the teachers are pretty understanding. Loving your school and standing up for it is excellent quality.

I love my school! Its teachers are pretty fun and understanding. Gyanshree is a volcano of opportunities, and I am honoured to be in this school. For me, my school is heaven. Whenever I enter it, I feel like this was the best day ever. Going offline from online was a pleasure, meeting my earlier teachers during dispersal and knowing they hadn't forgotten me.

Gyanshree School is a wonderful school,
Inside out, it's a wonderful school!
Gyanshree makes me feel proud,
It makes me confident in a crowd,
Its teachers are great,
It's the best school in the whole state!

Thinking about Gyanshree, I had almost forgotten about the school that helped me find my passion: My Good School!

My Good School is a wonderful school,
Inside out, it's a wonderful school!
I learnt all the values needed,
After going to My Good School, we all succeeded!
There are several things you can do,
Each thing is new!

My Passion - Rishona Chopra

Starting with a dream to become a teacher,

Thinking that I had that feature,

Then wanted to be a ballerina,

And present a show in Argentina!

I then wanted to be a rebel,

Or become a fairy and cast a spell.

Now finally, I want to become a doctor,

And a wonderful daughter.

A neurosurgeon perhaps,

And if I fail, I wouldn't collapse.

I have so many dreams to fulfil,

I really don't know which one to start with!

I could be a writer,

And be even brighter,

Most important of all, I want to be a good person,

And make sure things don't worsen!

You're Really A Good Girl - Rishona Chopra

" You're Really A Good Girl," said the headmaster to Totto-chan and the better part is that Totto-chan agreed with him; now that's what I call - self-esteem and self-love.

It was not that she wasn't a good girl; she was a really good girl. She was kind and helpful, but always curious took the better of her. It always got her into trouble! I wonder what a marvellous friend she would be!

Telling a young child that he/she is a good girl/ boy is really good. It means to say that - Some people may not think we are good, but your character is not bad. It has an excellent great deal, and I know that. Maybe someone makes us believe we are not great, but when we have one person who tells us that he believes in us and likes us, doesn't it feel great even if it is your friend. These words instil self-confidence in us, which is very important.

So, today let's give ourselves a message that we are great girls and boys!

Totto-chan, you're great,
You're someone with who I can relate,
You are kind,
You help the blind.
You are sweet,
You acted like you were meat!
You have amazing skills,
You bravely climb hills.
You wanted to be a ticket seller,
But you could even be a storyteller!
You want to be a spy and a musician,
You truly have a great ambition.
You're talkative and have so much to tell,
You're a great rebel.
I wish I were a bit more like you!
And that's true!

A beautiful journey - Rishona Chopra

A journey starts,

With a happy heart.
A few brakes and bumps,
But over those thorns we have to jump,
That’s the start when I am not perfect,
But giving up is not correct.
We are all beginners,
And that’s how we become winners,
Winners and beginners of life,
Now as sharp as a knife.
Mistakes keep happening,
But we should understand their meaning.

Never giving up hope,
And striving for more!

I was never good at writing, reading and this technology, but soon I learned. I was too a beginner, and I am learning and growing!

Thank you to all my teachers and my extraordinary mother and father for helping me strive for more and encouraging me every fall.

Spirituality - Rishona Chopra

Spirituality is not about praying to God or meditation. It is about the values we inculcate in ourselves. Humility, Hope, Love, Happiness, and all other values. It is being free from all clutter and learning to control our minds.

Spirituality is also about connecting to God, not through prayers but through our minds, talking to them as if they were our parents, our closest friends who wouldn't reveal our secrets to anyone. Whenever I am worried about a test or upset or angry, I try to talk to God by just speaking out all my feelings in my mind. You don't need to go to a temple or even pray.

Leave this chanting and singing and telling of beads!
Whom dost thou worship in this lonely dark corner of a temple with shut doors?
Open thine eyes and see thy God is not before thee!
He is there where the tiller is tilling the hard ground, and the path maker is breaking stones.
He is with them in the sun and in the shower,
and his garment is covered with dust.
Put off thy holy mantle and, like him, come down on the dusty soil!
Deliverance?
Where is this deliverance to be found?
Our master himself has joyfully taken upon him the bonds of creation;
he is bound with us all forever.
Come out of thy meditations and leave aside thy flowers and incense!
What harm is there if thy clothes become tattered and stained?
Meet and stand by him in toil and the sweat of thy brow.
- Rabindranath Tagore

This is a poem by Rabindranath Tagore which tells us how to connect with God and the meaning of spirituality.

Why Should I Go To School? - Rishona Chopra

A school is where we learn, grow, and work on ourselves. Schools are not a building but are a  building made of education and life. Schools are a place full of knowledge where students learn under the guidance of teachers. They are more than just academics. They focus on making us a good person, an actual human.

Schools are for us to grow and enhance our area of excellence. Therefore, every event in school, every day when we have fun playing games, is probably the best.

I go to school to learn and enjoy. I find so much joy.

Learning new things, I come to play near a spring.

Learning a new math trick, So it becomes easy and quick. I come to go to the lab, And make music beats by banging the slab!

I came to dance, And get another chance. I come to play, It makes me happy and gay! I come to make new friends, And borrow some pens. Going to school is so much fun, But the fun has just begun. Gyanshree: G-Glorious Y-Youthful A-Academic N-Nice S-Super H-Humble R-Respectful E-Efficient E-Eager

Talking With Your Hands - Rishona Chopra

The deaf and dumb use sign language to communicate; that is, they communicate through their actions- through their hands. Sign language is a beautiful language; I think schools should start educating students, or better, students learn it themselves! You can just learn the basics like - thank you, how are you? Sorry, please, my name is and so on. To say my name is.. - "my "in American Sign Language (ASL), form a flat hand and touch your chest twice. To perform the sign "name ", stick out your index and middle finger of both hands.

Once, I went to a bookstore and saw one of their workers was speaking in sign language, I couldn't understand it, but it was great to see that he was communicating with someone who could say but knew sign language too. Just because one might not be able to speak, they still need someone to share their feelings with, just like we do.

Never let a thought shrivel and die
For want of a way to say it
For English is a wonderful game
And all of you can play it
All you do is match the words
To the brightest thoughts in your head
So that they come out clear and true
And handsomely groomed and fed-
For many of the loveliest things
Have never yet been said
Words are the food and dress of thought
They give it its body and swing
And everyone's longing today to hear
Some fresh and beautiful things:
But only words can free a thought
From its prison behind your eyes
Maybe your mind is holding now
A marvellous new surprise
- Mary O' Nell

This poem is called "The Wonderful Words" by Mary O' Nell and tells about how we need a way to express ourselves because our mind holds a marvellous new surprise. For those who can't speak or hear, sign language enables them to see these great surprises their mind holds!

Haiku - Rishona Chopra

A haiku is a Japanese poem with 3 lines of 5 syllables, then 7 syllables and then 5.

Some famous haikus are as such -

Birds singing their song,
Wind caressing passers by,
Clouds wander the sky!
- Alma

Tree branch sways slowly,
As a child, sing a sweet song,
Gracefully it goes.
- Donna Brock

Here is a haiku made by me:

Stop worrying, friends,
Good things are coming our way,
Have fun and relax!

Too Caught Up - Reveda Bhatt

You call it life?
It’s just a game.

Looking for a shelter,

When under rain.

Thinking about what to do,

Coming out in pain.

Realizing too late,

Figuring out what’s main.

Figured out what to do?

But, now, you’re stuck in chains.

Chains rising high,

All the struggle went in vain.

What for?

Just to have substantial gain!

Reaching your destination,

Looking at a lane.

See where it leads to,

A ring surrounded by canes.

Entered it only to see a spark

Leading to flames

Looking around to escape,

But now you’re too deep,

It’ll never be the same!

Journaling: My Little Book Of Feelings - Rishona Chopra

Journaling is keeping a diary. You don't have to write long letters. A few drawings, page tearing, or even a few sentences can say it all. I like to call my journal - My Little Book Of Feelings because, in a day, I have so many feelings. In the morning, I am all happy and bright, and by the end of the day, all gloomy and sad. You never know! I am very unpredictable if you talk about my feelings.

You don't need to have a proper diary, just take a piece of paper and vent all your feelings. But then, when you have an excellent journal, and at the end of the week, you look at what you have written, you can reflect on your situations in a better way. I think expressing yourself by writing is much better because when you tell them with a person not necessary, they would actually understand your feelings, but that's just my way of doing it!

On the cover of my diary I have written - Open if you dare, don't you dare try to do that and of course have used lots of stickers and decorations to make it look beautiful. If you open my diary, you'll see torn pages that I pulled out of anger (and sometimes happiness). Even though you know I didn't mean it when I said, "Don't you dare open my diary", I am requesting you not to open it!

Every day is a new day with new feelings,
By writing, you feel you are healing.

Keep a small diary,
Tell all your thoughts about society.

You can boast,
And teel how you burnt a toast!

You can talk about all your friends and the things they did,
And how you want a best friend who is a friendly kid.

Share everything you want,
With no worry about the handwriting or font!

Happy International Yoga Day! - Rishona Chopra

Today on International Yoga Day,
Why don't we pray,
For healthy lives for everyone,
And that bad times don't touch anyone!

Let's wake up with a happy morning,
And exercise a bit which will surely be rewarding!
Butterfly pose or the wheel pose,
You can even stand on your toes.

At least you can do some meditation,
It will free your mind from unnecessary information.
So let's wish everyone a very happy International Yoga Day,
And let's celebrate the moment by being happy and gay!

National Reading Day! - Rishona Chopra

The National Reading Day is celebrated on the 19th of June in India. It is to honour our teachers and books. The celebration started in 1996.

Read a book,
And don't judge it by its look!
By reading a book, you can become a cook.
Or a doctor and author too!
Just read a page a day,
And you will find your way,
Just make sure you read something,
A magazine, a novel,
And trust me, no book is awful.
Fiction, non-fiction, Autobiographies
And biographies!
You can read anything you want,
Reading a book about your knowledge will make you flaunt!
So my dear friends, do read a book,
You can read one every Sunday with My Good School!

The Art of Storytelling - Rishona Chopra

Storytelling ain't something everybody can do,
You need some content and rhythm too!
A little music with some effects,
Everything should be set and perfectly correct.
Just add some feelings,
The story could be lovely, so it works like healing!
Just add some voice modulation and thought,
So it stays in people's minds as if it was taught.
The story could have a moral,
Or a quarrel.
All you need to do is hook the audience,
By being a little more patient!
Like in a movie theatre where people feel the water splash,
Hook them with your words, so they clap with a clash.
Make people feel like they were in the story
Make them feel all happy with glory.
The fundamental trick is just to feel the theme,
And the story will come out like a beautiful dream!
Along with storytelling, we need to be good listeners too,
We need to understand the story and try our best to reflect too.
If you know how to tell a story,
Make one yourself and tell me the story quickly!

A sprinkle of HHL - Rishona Chopra

All you need is a sprinkle of HHL,
Let me tell you more about it, yes I will speak,
HHL is Hope, Humility and Love,
That will make you shine like a dove,
Hope will make your heart smile,
Humility will take you a mile,
And love will make you feel in heaven, right above!
Make someone else smile,
And your heart will shine,
Some positivity,
Some freedom from pride and negativity,
It will make your day for sure,
And then you'll score life's big goal!
All you need is Hope, Humility and Love!
I am sure it will make your life full of happiness and love.

Acoustic Life - Reveda Bhatt

Our fate and will to live,

Opens the lifelong gate.

Our love for others,

Makes us feel as gentle as a dove,

But when it comes to playing the blame game,

We should act like a human,

And not an animal who's not tame!

Being the way you are,

Never makes anyone feel bad.

It makes them feel good,

Even when they are sad!

So, just be kind to everyone, lad,

And, with following that, you'll never go mad!

Never hurt someone,

And, if you do,

You'll never get along with anyone!

And if you say sorry too,

That wound won't fill,

Just give them some time,

And they'll be talking to you of their own will!

Tomoe Gakuen - Rishona Chopra

A unique school it is,
A bright shine it has,
No rules for studying or going in the pool, It was truly so cool!

The headmaster was a musician, And he had great ambitions! He wanted students to learn with passion and fun, He let the play in the gardens and run!

I wish I too went to this school,
There truly would be no strict rules!
They let students learn at their pace,
So that they learnt with grace.

They visited a hot spring at such a young age,
It kept them so engaged.
It is such a unique place,
It was something to embrace!

I wish I studied there,
But I too have a lot of fun here!

Totto Chan's mother - Rishona Chopra

I am Totto-chan's Mom
The illustration also by Rishona Chopra

Totto-chan's mother is a sweet, compassionate woman who is a lovely parent. She is patient and kind and loves her daughter Totto-chan. Totto-chan had been expelled from school. If it was any other mother, she would have grounded her or punished her or given her a long lecture, but Totto-chan 's mother didn't even let her know that she was expelled and just took her to a new school!

Compassion and understanding make a mother. Even if she had scolded her daughter, it would have been for the best, but after all, Totto-chan didn't do anything wrong either. She could also have scolded the teacher, but she understood her feelings and reacted accordingly and did not take decisions in haste.

She is a sweet mother,
She loves her daughter and couldn't want another!

She is kind and sweet,
Patient and neat,

She loves her daughter dearly,
She treats her like a fairy!

Brighten Their Day! - Reveda Bhatt

Here I come, from far away,

I think of something; but not the right way,

Oh, Lord! Tell me what to say,

Not to hurt anyone but to brighten their day!

Saying something terrible when you are not in your senses

Is the worst when seen through life’s feeling lenses

Just like cursing someone seems not to be the worst,

But, from the other perspective, it can make the victim’s feelings burst!

That is why, before saying anything-

I ask my Lord about what to say,

Not to hurt anyone,

But to brighten their day!
