Reflections for the week - Sunday 11th August 2024

The conversation revolved around the interpretation of dreams, the consequences of unjust leadership, and the importance of addressing environmental issues and teen mental health. 


Speakers shared their insights on the meaning of various animals in dreams, the moral decay and lack of unity in society, and the impact of social media on teenagers. They emphasized the need for just and capable leadership, individual and collective responsibility, and building connections and support systems to manage stress and promote mental well-being.

Welcome to #SGEF2024


Rarely do we have the opportunity to experience the #JoyOfLearning firsthand. SGEF serves as our special gathering place, and I have attended every Annual SGEF since 2016. We are excited to connect with #HappyTeachers in Jaipur.

This year’s conference theme is “Competencies Beyond Content: Aligning Today’s Curriculum with Tomorrow’s Unknown.” As we navigate a world where traditional education methods are increasingly becoming irrelevant, it is critical to rethink how we prepare students for future challenges that are only beginning to take shape.

Influential studies, like the recent Harvard Business Publishing Education analysis, underscore the urgency of evolving educational practices. The jobs of the future, influenced by rapid advancements in AI and technology, are unpredictable. This reality demands that we shift our focus from traditional content to fostering a broad set of competencies.

Prioritising competencies involves a proactive approach to curriculum reform, aiming to equip students with a diverse skill set by completing their K-12 education. We are discussing the potential of integrating essential practical skills, such as digital literacy and environmental stewardship, alongside indispensable soft skills like critical thinking, adaptability, and collaborative problem-solving.

This conference invites education stakeholders—school leaders, policymakers, teachers, students, and pedagogies—to engage in a critical dialogue about these transformative approaches. Together, we will explore innovative educational strategies that prioritise competencies over content, ensuring our students are not only ready for the jobs of tomorrow but also equipped to solve the problems of the future. Join us in shaping an educational paradigm that prepares our students to navigate and succeed in the unknown landscape of tomorrow’s careers.

Dreams often serve as a bridge between our subconscious mind and our conscious experiences. They weave together fragments of our deepest desires, fears, and unresolved emotions, presenting them in a tapestry that can reveal insights we might not otherwise see. 

When we dream, we tap into a realm where our minds are free to explore connections and possibilities beyond the constraints of our daily lives. These dreams can reflect our inner aspirations and unresolved conflicts and offer guidance or inspiration. 

Examining and reflecting on our dreams can uncover patterns and insights that connect our inner world with our external reality. This helps us better understand ourselves and align our actions with our true desires. In this way, dreams act as a map that shows how our inner thoughts and emotions are intricately connected to the choices and experiences in our waking lives.

Do Dreams Show Our Future?

Dreams are the whispers of our future, gently guiding us towards the possibilities yet to unfold.
I have been pondering this quote since the start of my adolescence. The reason I am thinking about it may be late, as my dreams in childhood were just fantasies. An Island with a big castle made of rocks, above the clouds, an orchard full of roses, wearing a ball gown. - Gaurangi 9th

It reflects on the significance of dreams, suggesting that they are more than just experiences during sleep. The text emphasizes that dreams are moments of life that help us understand ourselves better. It also touches on the idea of travelling through time, both technologically and philosophically, indicating that dreams can inspire and shape our reality. - Ibadat 6th

The chapter discusses a theme from the Jataka tales, specifically mentioning King Pasenadi and his dreams. This chapter explains that these dreams symbolize future moral and social decline, but the Buddha reassures the king that these events will not occur in his lifetime. It also includes motivational reflections, emphasizing the importance of believing in the beauty of dreams and the power within oneself to make dreams a reality. -

It explores the idea that dreams are thoughts held within our subconscious mind, likening them to movies with a twist. The chapter suggests that decoding dreams is like interpreting encrypted messages sent from our brain, posing questions about what our subconscious mind wants us to know and what we can learn from our dreams about our emotions and ourselves. - Sanskriti 6th
