Lunch Time - Gaurangi Rastogi

In a boarding school, we have no lunchbox, but we have canteens there. That place was a place for showing affection, having fun, and interacting with teachers.

As the head chair of my table, I must make my juniors eat the food properly, ensuring discipline and no wastage of food. When I became the head chair for the first time, it was a tough job to make my juniors eat properly, Sometimes, they did not like the dish, or the taste was too bad.

Once I broke down, I was tired of the tantrums, but a senior made me realize that I was like them; when I was a junior. Today, I share and tell them that they eat little but everything! This lesson would be remembered all the time.

Empathy - Ushita Saxena

Empathy is when you connect with someone. When you understand someone's feelings and know what to tell them. When you observe someone suffering, you may be able to imagine yourself in their shoes and sympathise with them. 

Have you ever heard of the term "sympathy"? Sympathy and Empathy may sound like synonyms, but actually, they aren't! Sympathy is when you feel sorry for someone from your own perspective. Empathy is when you put yourself in someone else's shoes and understand why they feel that way. This is a significant difference to understand. Let's take an example. Your friend's sibling died, and they are feeling super sad. What would you do? If you were to sympathise, you would say things like 'I'm sorry you're feeling that way or 'It's okay. Don't worry about something like that. But if you were to empathise, you would say things like, 'I have been there and be sad too.  

Empathy is essential as it helps build connections with people and bond with them. Social relationships are necessary for your body and your mental state. Empathising with people makes them empathise with you and spreads it.  

To practice Empathy and influence it, you can do a ton of stuff, such as: i. Work on listening to people without interrupting 

ii. Pay attention to body language and other types of nonverbal  communication 

iii. Try to understand people, even when you disagree with them iv. Ask people questions to learn more about them and their lives 

To conclude, Empathy is when you understand that person and know what they are feeling, which can prepare you for telling them about it. It helps in socialising and creating bonds. Sympathy and Empathy are very different; sympathy is when you feel sorry for them passively, and Empathy Is when you are sorry for them in a more active way and feel what they are feeling. 

"If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours."

My name is Aanya Kumar, and I study at Podar International School. Just likeTotto-chan’s old school, our school also has a school song. As requested by Sunita Ma’am in today’s session, I would like to post my school song here-:

The School Song - Rishona Chopra

A school song displays the school but do we really need a song to display our school? Isn't the love of the teachers quite enough? Isn't the hard work of teachers quite enough? We don't need a school song to realize that this is a perfect place, or do we? At Tomoe, we don't have a school song, but the headmaster's love is quite enough to describe his school.

Even if we have a school song, we should sing it with pride because going to a good school is a blessing as it is a haven of knowledge. At Gyanshree, we have a school song, and it goes like this:

We, the Shreeyans, are virtuous and strong
To this heavenly place, we belong
We see our future gleaming in the light
We vow to be prudent and upright
Seeking knowledge, resolute to attain
At Gyanshree, excellence and acclaim
We, the Shreeyans, we are proud to be

With such a lovely school, we are endowed.

Isn't that a wonderful school song? Although I don't really know the tune, I love to sing it!

We have so many languages,

Brighten Their Day! - Reveda Bhatt

Here I come, from far away,

I think of something; but not the right way,

Oh, Lord! Tell me what to say,

Not to hurt anyone but to brighten their day!

Saying something terrible when you are not in your senses

Is the worst when seen through life’s feeling lenses

Just like cursing someone seems not to be the worst,

But, from the other perspective, it can make the victim’s feelings burst!

The Butterfly - Rishona, Mahir, Kabeer, Diva and Anisha

A butterfly roaming in the flower sector,
Going flower to flower to collect some nectar.
They fly with their colourful silky wings,
They fly when the nightingale sings.

Oh! How beautiful it is when its colours shine!
And when I catch it, it will always stay mine.

When it flies around me,
It's so glorious, I see.
Oh, what a joy it is, a butterfly.
I know it will never lie.

They fly so high,
It feels like they could touch the sky.

Learning: The Fun Way - Anvesha Rana

At Tomoe Gakuen, the students could study the subjects at their own pace. Unlike regular schools where children have fixed periods for different topics. At Tomoe, one could start by doing their favourite subject and then somehow manage to do the ones they dislike; this was learning the fun way. Independent decisions made the children ready for real life. 

Another aspect of Totto Chan's new school was that lunch was unique. Everyone was supposed to bring something from the ocean and the hills to meet the essential nutrition requirement. Also, if the child only had something from the sea or something from the sea, then the headmaster's wife would dole out the other. So all kids at Tomoe Gakuen always ate Something from the ocean and something from the hills. 

The Headmaster was a distinctive individual; he always encouraged the children to chew their food well and respect it. He would often test the students' culinary knowledge by asking them about the place from where their food belongs: The hills or the sea? 

This was all the fun at Tomoe Gakuen, but the best part was probably the School Walks. After lunch, all the kids would walk in the open with their teacher in the midst. Everyone would think of it as leisure time, but these walks were actually memorable lessons in science, history and biology.

This is Learning the Fun Way, which is at Tomoe Gakuen but is even at My Good School, where Learning is Fun and Fun is Learning!
