Independence Day - Ritesh Gaire

15th August is a special day for Indians as they celebrate it as Independence Day to pay tribute to India's freedom fighters and leaders who fought for India's freedom.

It was on 15th August 1947 that India was declared independent from British colonialism. And the reins of control were handed over to the leaders of our country.

India's gaining of independence was a tryst with destiny, as the struggle for freedom was long and tiresome - witnessing the sacrifices of many freedom fighters who laid their lives on the line.

We should always be grateful to the freedom fighters who fought for freedom. We should thank those men and women who did not bother about their happiness but instead thought of the honour of their mother country.

They are the ones who gave us the country we live in, the free air we breathe in. They gave us the scented soil we are proud of. They gave us the dignity we deserve as citizens of the Indian subcontinent.

Education and financial independence - Mishu Gupta

Education and financial independence are tools that can help us face difficulties. Still, confidence must be developed throughout life means that if we are educated, we will try to make changes in society and the thoughts of ordinary people.

For example, well before our society, girls were said to stay at home and had no right to be educated, which led to discrimination between boys and girls. On this matter, many educated people tried to remove this thought from their minds (many failed also) because they knew what the outcome would be. They kept on trying, and today we can see the conclusion. A woman who belongs to a tribal caste is heading a country (Smt. Droupadi Murmu), setting an example every day. Many women play a significant role in our lives. And also we are so grateful to them.

Speaking in front of an audience and trying to express my thoughts in front of someone is an excellent way to improve self-confidence in our self.

'In our 75th year of Independence… we needed quality literature about our great tribal freedom fighters. This book is a genuinely commendable start in that direction. —Arjun Munda, Minister of Tribal Affairs

The meticulous lines drawn out from the intricately woven Indian history narrate a tale of courage and patriotism, courteous and courageous fighters astounded the invaders with defiance for crumbling in pain their fragile and ancient machinery might lay down on the battlefield. Still, the spirit of freedom ignited further after losing. Indians unified is a resilient symbol of Pure Indian Strength; our most significant asset lies in our people.

Our impregnable freedom is a culmination of the endeavours of numerous freedom fighters; the depths of oppression create such heights of character.

Our Independence was not a birthright. It was fought for with life and death by these tribal communities.

Our first war of Independence was not in 1857.

Tribal mutinies against the British began at least 75 years before the 1857 revolution.

These battles were fought with traditional bows and arrows and spears and predated the reported political movement that came to the fore in the latter part of the nineteenth century. As we complete 75 years of Independence, it is only fair to acknowledge that a parallel freedom movement existed in our far-flung villages and jungles, away from the mainstream freedom movement recognised in the books of history. The Great Tribal Warriors of Bharat is a humble attempt to honour these largely unsung heroes of an epochal movement whose contribution remains largely unacknowledged.

The book begins with Tilka Manjhi, who unleashed guerilla warfare to combat the British and includes Jaipal Singh Munda, one of the most nuanced speakers of our Constituent Assembly, tracking the trajectory of this movement. These brave warriors came from all parts of India, including the Northeast and the South, and all tribes in the country. The book is a rare collection and a journey into self-discovery for our civilisation-turned nation. If you want to be a part of similar podcasts, join us.

Our question and chat:

Anvesha : Life is complicated like a tangled ball of yarn but stories are those colourful, bright strings which need to be intricately intertwined along to narrate a tale full of splash, and that is the Beauty Of Life!

Rishona : Yes indeed and as we are here on National Short Story Day, we welcome you to My Good School Show Season 9 where passion meets education. Today I, Rishona

Anvesha : and I, Anvesha will be your hosts for the event. We have a very special person here with us today, we have the co-author of the Great Tribal Warriors of Bharat Ms. Ambalika Bhat with us. We welcome you ma’am, would you like to speak a few words ma’am ?

Rishona :  Thank you ma’am, it is great to be here alongside you on this day. Authors are simply like storytellers and stories are the way life works.

Anvesha :  Yes we hear and tell stories everyday, when we need to narrate an incident to someone we tell a story or the time when a quick excuse is needed, our mouth blurts out the best story.

Rishona : Yes, in order to learn something effectively, we often learn it as a story. Moreover, whenever we have to learn about values or lifeskills, then they are best learned as stories.

Anvesha : Indeed, Ambalika ma’am what do you think about the role of stories in human life ?

Rishona : Stories are indeed very important ma’am. They have a meaning which surely puts an impact in some way or the other. The Great Tribal Warriors of Bharat is definitely a book of one of a kind. I am sure ma'am that your book influenced you and motivated you in one way or the other.

Anvesha:I absolutely agree with you. Each story influences us, it has a unique message that is portrayed throughout the tale. I personally love to read stories, of all kinds. Sometimes they are a means to elude from our everyday life and at other times, stories are advisors. Each story, each character, each message is a tie that connects us all. It is not the extravagance but the simplicity of stories that lies embedded in the minds of the readers leaving indelible impressions.

Rishona: Stories can be used in a negative way but those which lend out a positive message, definitely inspire us,help us and some stories just touch our hearts. It is rightly said by Rudyard Kipling - “If history was taught in stories, it would never be forgotten.” To conclude, I would like to quote a line by A.C Benson " All the best stories in the world are one story in reality - The story of escape. It is the only thing that interests us all and at all times how to escape".

Anvesha : With that, we come to the end of our podcast. Comment below and let us know if you liked our podcast. If you want to be a part of similar podcasts, join us. We hope to meet you soon again! That’s all for us today.

The Tribal Warriors Of Bharat shows how we see only those we are shown, but behind the freedom of India, there are many unseen soldiers or, shall I say, fighters whose stories were never heard.

I haven't read this book, but after reading the synopsis and the first few pages and meeting the author, I am super excited to read about it!!

Translation:

Independence is not the right to do as we wish but the right to do what is right. Independence is the essence of freedom, the feeling that we are not ruled by anyone but have the opportunity, just like others, to explore and learn. Independence is a fundamental right and our need, but nowadays, this need has become a want. Many people don't have the independence to make their decisions in life, do what they want, study and not live under the rule of somebody. So let's not take our independence for granted because it is unique.

What Independence means to me - Rishona Chopra

Independence is not the right to do as we wish but the right to do what is right. Independence is the essence of freedom, the feeling that we are not ruled by anyone else but have the opportunity just like others to explore and learn. Independence is to make our own decisions. In the national flag of India, the top band is of Saffron colour, indicating the strength and courage of the country. The white middle bar indicates peace and truth with Dharma Chakra. The last bar is green in colour, showing the land's fertility, growth and auspiciousness. Our country is developing, but its heart is devolved with unity and pride.

We have so many languages,
Each of them gives us so much knowledge.
Lots of different cultures,
Each one of them is precious!
This rich diversity,
Gives me a new identity.
Everyone is so unique,

Together when we come, no one is weak!
Even though our differences create problems,
We should understand our differences are our customs!
We are all united as a team,
We can together make a dream.
After all, it's unity in diversity,
We are just so extraordinary!
This country makes me feel proud,
It makes me unique in this big crowd.
I love my country the way it is,
All the fights were challenging quizzes.
Salute to those who lost lives for us,
So we live in a better world, and there is no fuss.
I see people dancing with pride on the street,
And giving each other sweets.
I see them saying "Jay Hind" proudly,
They say it clearly and loudly.

What does Independence mean to me? - Anvesha Rana

It’s uncanny that our forefathers had to strive and struggle so desperately for an Independent India. It’s even more strange that we treat our independence as a birth-given right. Today, what we take for granted resulted from combined forces forged throughout British Indian history. It was a blend of hues, cries, rebellions and massacres all because of one motherland, Bharat.

Independence is the ability to obtain basic fundamental rights. It is the state where we can freely express ourselves, work as per our wishes and simply do whatever we want. Independence is when we have no obstructions or restrictions and are free to fly high and soar in the sky.

But that is independence for a citizen. What is independence for us, as distinct individuals? For some, it would be being able to make all their decisions rationally and independently, but ideally, independence should be a state of mind and not a right.

If we are pulled down by the people at our side,

but in our minds, we are transparent and wide

If we don’t show it, but we know it,

That when the time comes, we will fly.

If we have enough faith and courage,

To be the first on a different path,

If we have the belief and encourage,

To be alone but still be without wrath.

If we are disheartened when we fail,

But we don’t give up on our trail

If we can rise after each fall,

But never give up on the target, however tall.

If we know to help the wounded in a race,

And pick them up and slow down our pace,

If we can walk together till the last,

And still, show no glory and no hast.

If we can be clutched in tight chains,

And still, be strong and free as an eagle above the clouds

In high rains,

If we can be crushed like a flower,

And still not lose our essence,

Then that is Independence.

Independence Day marks the end of British rule in 1947 and the establishment of a free and independent Indian nation. It also marks the anniversary of the partition of the subcontinent into two countries, India and Pakistan, which occurred at midnight on August 14–15, 1947. (In Pakistan, Independence Day is celebrated on August 14)." - Encyclopedia Brittanica

Freedom - Aavansh Gupta

August 15 is Independence Day, also known as Freedom Day. We celebrate it because, on this day, our country was free from the British. But did you know this was half of the freedom? We make poor people our maids and make them do whatever we want. Some people don’t even give them enough salary. We trap birds in cages and do not let them fly independently. We also tie a steel chain around dogs and cats. Can’t every living being live with freedom? So let me share a self-composed poem that will tell you about freedom.

Freedom is the right to do
Whatever we want.
Like flying in an aeroplane
Or searching about thorn.

August 15 1947
When the British left our country
Everyone did whatever they wanted
But that wasn’t the whole freedom

We trap birds in cages.
Do not let them fly
They roam all around the cage
Escaping is what they try

So, on Republic Day
On January 26
Let us make a promise
That freedom will be our bliss.

Freedom - Pavni Gupta

Freedom, it is a pretty common word everyone has heard of. If you ask people, the meaning may differ for everyone.

For someone, it may mean the freedom of going anywhere they want, whereas, for some, it may mean the liberty of speaking anything, it may also indicate the freedom of saying anything, and for some, it may be no restrictions. After all, everyone has their own perspectives.

According to some books and dictionaries, it even means independence. The real value of anything is understood only by the people who have earned it or have sacrificed to achieve it. For example – the ladies who raised the voice of the right to vote.

Experience - Jyotirmay Nag

When my teacher told me to do a short role-play of our real hero and a great freedom fighter Chandra Shekhar Azad to celebrate our 75th Independence Day, I became very excited as he is the true example of freedom and inspiration of millions of Indians.

We can never forget his sacrifice for our country. He loved his country more than anything. I was glad to play a short role-play with such a great person. I learnt the dialogues and practised with my teacher through voice calls and video calls.

My grandmother and my mother helped me to dress up and to make the video. It was such a wonderful experience for me. We all should remember the sacrifices of our freedom fighters as because of them, we are enjoying our freedom today.

We should never do things that harm our country. We must think of how we can make our country more beautiful and a peaceful place to live.
