Is social media distracting us? - Sakshi Singh

Social media, a double-edged sword,
It connects us all, yet ties us to strings.
In virtual worlds, our thoughts are muddled.
In screens we're lost, our focus blurred.

Pings and constant calls
Distracting us from life's moments, big and small.
Scrolling boundlessly, time slips away.

Likes and comments, we crave them so.
But are they worth the time we hold?
In this online crowd, reflect and find a harmony where you truly belong.

Expressing Yourself - Rishona Chopra

Every day is a new day with new thoughts and feelings. Most of us feel that we should share them with someone. But with who? Some of us like writing or painting. The best way to express our day is with a journal. You can express your day and opinion through pictures or writing. If you are angry, you can even scribble on your diary to express your feelings, just don't tear the pages!

The perfect time to write a journal is at the end of the day, just before bed. I write a journal, at it is good to express your feelings. Although, I forget to write it sometimes! Sometimes, when I'm tired, I draw.

You don't need to have a proper diary, just take a piece of paper and vent out all your feelings. But then, when you have an excellent journal, and at the end of the week, you look at what you have written, you could reflect on your situations in a better way. I think expressing yourself by writing is much better because when you tell them with a person not necessary, they would actually understand your feelings, but that's just my way of doing it!

Be a Dreamer - Shambhavi Nautiyal

Shambhavi Nautiyal, VII-D, Ahlcon Public School
I am a keen story writer and reader. I try to learn as much as I can and remember those stories to rejuvenate myself and not lose hope in the end. I am a big fan of K-pop as the music soothes my soul and makes me feel effervescent. The 17th-century films helped me learn values and set my beliefs.

Reflecting on Chapter 7, Be a Dreamer from the book Is Your Child Ready To Face The World? by Dr Anupam Sibal.

I read the chapter ‘Be a Dreamer’ from the book ‘Is your Child Ready to Face the World?’ and it said that Dr Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream for his nation to be racially equal, and so I thought that I too must have a dream and ambition for my nation. Hence, I have come up with postulation of our country with an optimistic motive.

My dream for India in 2040 is that we would be free from illiteracy, poverty and unemployment. I hope we shall benefit from all the schemes and programmes our government has launched. The international organizations we have joined, such as the United Nations, are supposed to improve our country’s economic and environmental state. Through this drawing (below), I envision India’s technology and environment both to become stable and sustainable. Nowadays, it’s difficult for technology to be efficient and at the same time harmless for the environment. I also ideate that the youth who go through education, designed according to the national education policy, will help us solve the problem. This drawing shows the time when we’d be thanking our government for forming the new NEP 2020 and joining the United Nations for the Sustainable Development Goals, as the outcomes would be drastic. This will change our youth’s lives a lot.

Freedom - Aayan Biswas

Aayan Biswas, VI-B, Ahlcon Public School
I have a hobby of reading books on fiction and mystical lands. I write stories and poems as I find writing the best way to express my feelings and tell people what I think. I really enjoy writing and reading as it is delightful.

Freedom

He committed a crime and had paid a fine,

I went to jail and waited for bail.

He drove cars and ate a chocolate bar,

I trotted all day; even my birthday passed away.

He ate burgers and French fries,

I had eaten some bread and plain rice.

He had friends and family,

While I had no one beside me.

Framed me for a crime that he had done,

They didn’t let me say a word, not even one!

As I rotted in a black box,

He went hiking and climbed rocks.

I had soon lost all hope and might,

My life was all black and not a spot of white.

Suddenly, I saw a beautiful sight.

Justice was served, right and well,

I was freed, and he was confined.

Everything had changed after such a long time,

It felt as it was the first time the sun had shone!

Courage - Aishwarya Kalia Ahuja

Ms Aishwarya Kalia Ahuja
TGT English
Ahlcon Public School
I am an experienced English teacher. Alongside teaching, I enjoy writing. I've also authored research papers and published poems. I've a keen interest in research which is always leveraged in analyzing learners' language needs.

COURAGE

My stories were dealt with mock and fun
Sneers, taunts, sarcasm were all I won.
All smiles I was in
To not let anyone hear my lyrics.
I showed Courage every time
No matter what the atmosphere is!

I needn't put on my armour and show my strength
A clear conscience doesn't exhibit its defence.
My silence would yell my feats
They'd soon regret their mistreat.
I'll smile in my lyrics
No matter what the atmosphere is!

Wheel of time would turn soon.
They will dance to my tunes
What if I ace up my sleeve
In how much time they'd retrieve?

All smiles I was in
To not let anyone hear my lyrics
I showed Courage every time
No matter what the atmosphere is!

Making Mistakes, Accepting Flaws - Arav Agarwal

Based on the chapter Making Mistakes, Accepting Flaws, from the book is your child ready to face the world by Dr Anupam Sibal.

We are humans, we tend to make mistakes, and we should accept the mistakes. We should reflect and learn from our mistakes and not repeat the same mistakes.

Let’s take the example of Thomas Edison. When he invented the light bulb, he failed 999 times! Then in an interview, he was asked how was it like to fail 999 times. He said, “I did not fail 999 times but only found 999 ways of how not to invent the light bulb.” Every time he made a mistake, he learned from it and improved. Imagine if he had given up and not learned from his mistakes, our life would be without light.

We should not expect everyone to be flawless in everything. There is a beautiful story in this book called the two pots. It teaches us that we should see goodness in our flaws. We should accept it, and mistakes are a part of our growth in our life.
