The Power of Reading and Reflection in Student Growth- Sunbeam Hostel Lahartara

Sunday School Reflection by Manisha Khanna

Reading and reflection play a vital role in a student’s growth. Through regular reading, students gain knowledge, imagination, and empathy, while reflection helps them think deeply about what they have learned. Together, these practices encourage self-awareness, emotional understanding, and critical thinking. As students read, reflect, and relate ideas to their own lives, they gradually evolve into thoughtful, confident, and sensitive learners.

Turning Stories into Strength - Sunbeam School, Ballia

Reflections from My Good School on the 4th of January 2026

Today's Good Schools Alliance session was exciting and enjoyable. Jugiv sir read stories that helped us learn about Japanese culture ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต and essential life skills. Before the session with Manisha ma'am began, she conducted a brief quiz on the New Year and reading habits, which prompted me to reflect on how I want to improve myself in 2026. We also listened to stories by Ruskin Bond, which were simple, meaningful, and inspiring. Overall, the session motivated me to read more, learn new things, and develop good habits.

Ishika Singh, Class IX

Today's session was engaging, meaningful, and informative. It helped me understand the importance of reading, positive thinking, and good values. During the session, we listened to a book reading that inspired me to believe that books can guide us and help us grow in life. The reading was engaging and made the session more enjoyable.

Overall, today's Good School session motivated me to read more books, learn new things, and become a better and more confident student.

Aadhya Gupta, Class V

In today's Hindi book-reading session, Manisha ma'am presented a short yet interesting set of questions that focused on the real benefits of reading and reflection. While answering these questions, I came to understand the importance of reflection and the valuable skills it cultivates. Subsequently, we read a short story about a girl who made the winning catch at the end of a cricket match. The story highlighted essential lessons, including time management and the importance of providing equal opportunities to everyone.

Additionally, Jugjiv sir explained that we should believe in ourselves and always try to do our best rather than worrying too much about the outcome. He emphasised that our actions and efforts matter more than the outcome. While talking about luck, he quoted a beautiful saying by a golf player: *"The harder I practice, the luckier I get."* This taught me that luck supports us when we are willing to put in sincere hard work.

Lessons in Growth, Perseverance, and Open-Mindedness - Sunbeam School Ballia

How people grow, change, and step into new roles, often surprising those around them. Schascha reveals that she no longer works at the bookshop and has moved beyond that chapter of her life, underscoring that growth sometimes means leaving familiar places and expectations behind. Carl's surprise shows how we often hold onto outdated versions of people, assuming they haven't changed. Their interaction highlights that moving forward requires courage, planning, and a willingness to let others see who we are becoming, not who we used to be.

We often judge others based on appearances or preconceived notions, yet those assumptions can be completely wrong. The character expected the book-delivery woman to be "plain" or unimpressive based on her job, but was surprised to find that she was confident, capable, and even charming. This moment challenges the narrator's biases and shows how easily we underestimate people simply because of the roles they play or how they are presented to us. It is a reminder that every person carries depth, skill, and personality that cannot be measured by first impressions, and that staying open-minded can lead to unexpected respect or admiration.

Themes of guilt, regret, and the desire for redemption also appear. Carl's harshness toward others and his emotional distance leave lasting effects not only on the people he pushes away but also on himself. Meanwhile, Scheacha's determination to "rewrite" events like a story shows her longing to restore what was broken, proving how deeply she cares and how strongly hope can motivate change. The contrast between Carl's withdrawal and Scheacha's persistence underscores how human connection can either wither or be rebuilt depending on the choices people make.

Chirag Rai, VB

Today's session taught me some valuable lessons that can help us grow in life. One of the most important things I understood is that failure is not the end. If we fail in our first attempt, we should not lose hope. Every outstanding achievement begins with trying again.

Another important lesson is the power of persistence. When we continue working towards our dreams without giving up, success eventually comes our way. Hard work and consistency are the genuine keys to reaching our goals.

My Reflection on Today's Session

First Session
My Good School Alliance session today was one of the most interesting sessions. We had two great personalities with us. Firstly, we had Mr Jugjiv Singh. He asked students to read their own reflections. Then he continued the story, The Door to Door Bookstore. His reading voice was really inspiring and lovely. The story was all about how books can connect people and help them share knowledge in a fun and entertaining way. This class was really knowledgeable.

Second Session
After Mr Jugjiv's class, we automatically changed to Mrs Manisha Khanna's class. Firstly, we had a short and wonderful quiz with her. Then she read the story เคฐเคฃเคœी เค•ा เคถाเคจเคฆाเคฐ เคฌเคฒ्เคฒा. I learnt many new things in this story.

  1. We should not give up if we do not achieve our goal in the first step.

  2. We should never lose hope and give up.
This class was really full of values.

At the end, both sessions were really eye-opening, full of morals and emotions. I would like to thank
Mr Jugjiv Singh
for giving us this opportunity to enhance our reading and vocabulary.

Thank you.

Reading with Heart and Mind: Our Sunday Reflections at My Good School- Lotus Petal Foundation

Lotus Petal School

At Lotus Petal School, our Sunday Reading Sessions at My Good School help us see reading in a new light. Every story becomes a lesson in thinking, feeling, and growing.

Through the Four Fs — Fact, Feeling, Finding, and Future — we read with both heart and mind.
Fact helps us remember what happened,
Feeling lets us connect with the story,
Finding reveals hidden lessons, and
Future inspires us to apply them in life.

Each reading leaves us a little wiser, a little kinder, and more aware of the world around us. At My Good School, reading is not just an activity — it’s a way to learn and live better.

Reflection: Sunbeam My Good School Retreat 2025

As we depart for our homes, the wall stands alone, waiting for our next visit!

The Good School Retreat 2025 was truly one of the most memorable and enriching experiences of my school life. Held at Sunbeam Suncity, Varanasi, and hosted by Sunbeam Gramin School, the retreat brought together students from different schools under the Good School Alliance — all with one goal: to learn, share, and grow together.

Our journey began on 26th October, when we boarded the train to Varanasi with excitement bubbling inside us. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed at Sunbeam Suncity. The first day began with flag bearers’ practice, followed by ice-breaking games that instantly helped us bond with students from other schools.

The next day, we had our opening ceremony, where we got the opportunity to meet inspiring personalities like Mr Sandeep Dutt, author of My Good School, Mr Jugjiv Sir, Headmaster of the Good School Alliance, Nilashi Ma’am, and many others. The morning started with yoga, after which we went for our service project visits. Our group went to Banaras Beads, India’s largest exporter and single-unit bead-making factory, while other groups visited Kiran Village, where we saw how specially-abled children are empowered through education and skills. Both visits were eye-opening experiences that taught us about hard work, empathy, and real-life learning. Later that evening, we had tea and snacks, a reading session by Jugjiv Sir from the book My Good School, followed by an interactive Joy of Learning activity by Nilashi Ma’am.

On Day 3, the day began with an energetic Zumba session, which filled everyone with positive vibes. Then came the Inme Activities led by the Inme team, where we played games that taught us teamwork, communication, and leadership in the most fun and creative ways. That evening, we were treated to a special Baati Chokha dinner, which was absolutely delicious! The day ended beautifully with another Joy of Learning session by Nilashi Ma’am, where we reflected and interacted even more deeply.

Day 4 was my personal favourite! We went on a Varanasi Darshan, visiting the archaeological site of the Buddha Temple, the monument of Rani Lakshmi Bai, and Assi Ghat, where we saw the real home of Tulsidas Ji. Learning about the ancient monasteries and their preservation was fascinating — it felt like stepping into history itself. Later that evening, we had our Talent Show, where our school performed a poetry piece and a rap. Everyone loved our performance, and the appreciation we received made us feel so proud! We also got to see other amazing performances — from dance and singing to flute playing — each one filled with pure talent and joy.

Finally, on Day 5 (30th October), we visited Sunbeam Gramin School, where we attended the morning assembly and participated in the YES Workshop. Throughout the retreat, we had been working on our flip charts, a 25-page reflection journal highlighting what we learned from the four S’s — Study, Skill, Sports, and Service. In the workshop, we presented our learnings and shared how these values are implemented in our school. It was a truly meaningful way to end the retreat.

As we departed for Ballia, I carried with me not just memories but life lessons — about joyful learning, teamwork, service, and friendship. The retreat wasn’t just a trip; it was an experience that helped me grow as a student and as a person. ๐ŸŒŸ

The Line of Life — From A to C - Manisha Khanna

What do you see???   number 13, alphabet M, symbol of McDonald's in reverse, alphabet W, and a few assumptions. Right!
 Now, what do you see?
A — B — C.
It looks simple, doesn’t it?

When we look at B standing alone, we make assumptions.
It looks uncertain, directionless, incomplete.
But the moment we place A before it and C after it, everything changes.
Suddenly, B has meaning — it becomes a journey, not a mistake.

This is the story of adolescence.

At A, life begins simple — a straight line full of purpose, innocence, and clarity.
Then comes B, the bend — that confusing space where identity blurs.
Adolescents stand here, between childhood and adulthood, searching for who they are and where they belong.

In this search, they turn to the easiest mirror they can find — the mirror of society, peers, and screens. Every like, every follow, every comment becomes a reflection of worth. But it’s a fragile mirror, one that cracks under the weight of comparison.

They see the success, not the struggle. They see the filtered faces, not the unseen effort. They see the highlight reels, not the rewrites.

What was once a journey of self-discovery has become a quest for approval.

The mind starts to equate validation with value. Shortcuts replace effort. When the likes don’t come, anger rises. When popularity doesn’t follow, burnout begins. The mind grows restless, the body disengaged, and the spirit unsure.

The B stage is filled with doubt, anxiety, and exhaustion — a bend that feels like a breakdown.
But B was never meant to stand alone.

When adolescents reconnect with their A — their roots, their values — and discover their C — their purpose, their potential — something shifts. The confusion softens. The curve straightens. They begin to see that the bend was not a detour, but a design — a necessary part of growth.

The truth is, the line was never broken — only bent. The self was never lost — only searching.

And the journey back to self begins the moment the adolescent pauses the scroll, silences the noise, and listens inward.

Because real identity doesn’t live in pixels. It lives with purpose.

So the question is:
Are we helping our adolescents move from B to C?
Or are we keeping them trapped in the endless scroll of confusion?

Please send your responses to mk@learningforward.org.in. We look forward to receiving your thoughtful insights.

A Day of Literary and Intellectual Growth

I wanted to express my sincere appreciation for today's profoundly educational and enjoyable Good School Alliance session. The seamless combination of literary exposure and practical communication advice made this a truly memorable day of learning.

The first segment, led by Jugjiv Sir, was characterised by warmth and clarity. The reading of “The Door-to-Door Bookstore” beautifully highlighted themes of community, friendship, and the personal connections we form with literature. Sir’s subsequent lesson on correct punctuation and clear articulation was incredibly useful, as it directly addressed crucial elements of effective writing and speaking. His emphasis on developing public speaking confidence gave me actionable steps toward becoming a better orator.

The second session, featuring the insightful Ms Brinda Ghosh, shifted our focus to the natural world. Her reading from the chapter “Hello Sandman” in “The Inner Life of Animals” was fascinating. It opened my eyes to the depth of emotional and intellectual life in animals, introducing new concepts that sparked my curiosity and desire to learn more about environmental studies and biology.

Both presenters delivered their content with infectious enthusiasm. I left the session feeling motivated to not only read more widely but also to practice the communication techniques I acquired. These lessons are highly valuable and will undoubtedly contribute to my growth both academically and personally.

The Lotus Petal Foundation is delighted to share reflections on the insightful session conducted by Mr Kartik Bajoria on Communication Skills this past Sunday.

The session was an engaging and enriching experience for our students and team members alike. Mr Bajoria’s dynamic approach and practical examples helped participants understand the essence of effective communication — not just as a tool for expression, but as a bridge for connection and confidence.

Through interactive discussions, relatable anecdotes, and hands-on exercises, participants explored how tone, body language, and clarity play vital roles in everyday interactions. The session encouraged everyone to reflect on their own communication styles and discover ways to express themselves with greater authenticity and impact.

Learning Through Stories - Lotus Petal Foundation

Reflection My Good School.docx.pdf

Students from Lotus Petal Foundation participated in an inspiring My Good School session. This session featured two lively book-reading activities that sparked curiosity, creativity, and meaningful reflections. Students discussed the lessons they learned and how reading together fostered open conversation, empathy, and joy in learning.

Opening New Doors Through Reading - Sunbeam School Ballia

The Good School session was truly inspiring. Mr Jugjiv Sir read and explained the story, The Door-to-Door Bookstore. He also told us the meanings of the hard words. We also learned how to pronounce the difficult words. The way Sir teaches was very nice. At the end, I would say that this session was very interesting.

– Bhumi Gupta, 5B

In this Good School session, I learned how to pronounce words correctly and how to spell new words that were difficult for me before. I also learned how to use commas and question marks properly in sentences. During the session, Jugjiv Sir read a story to us, and we listened carefully. He asked us questions about the story and encouraged us to share our experiences and thoughts. This activity helped me understand the story better and improved my speaking skills. In the end, I would like to say that this session was very useful for me.
– Riddhi Gupta, 5B

The session on The Door-to-Door Bookstore was honestly super interesting and fun! We didn’t just read the story; we really got into it, exploring the characters, their struggles, and how small actions can make a big difference. I especially loved how we discussed random but cool things, like the heels-for-men fact and the legend of Santa Claus—stuff you wouldn’t normally think about, but it made the session so lively. It was more than just a story; it was about human connections, persistence, and noticing the little things in life that actually matter. I also enjoyed how everyone could share their thoughts—it wasn’t just one-way; it felt interactive and made me think differently about storytelling and how messages are delivered. Overall, it was a session that was both fun and meaningful. I left feeling inspired and more aware of the small details and lessons stories can teach us. Definitely one of those sessions that stick with you!

In today’s Good School session, firstly, Jugjiv Sir read a story to us, and we understood it carefully. We learned how to pronounce some difficult words and their meanings. The story’s name was The Door-to-Door Bookstore. After that, there was a short quiz on Ruskin Bond taken by Manisha Khanna Ma’am. This was conducted because the next story was by Ruskin Bond, and that book was also amazing. Ma’am also asked some questions that related to us. At the end of my reflection, I want to say that this session was amazing and interesting.

My reflection on today’s Good School Alliance session: Today’s meeting about the Good School Alliance session by Jugjiv Sir and Manisha Ma’am was very inspiring and interesting. They also read a story. We listened to it very carefully. Then they asked some questions about it, and that encouraged us to share our thoughts and ideas. This helped me understand the story better. We learned how to pronounce words properly, and when they were reading the story, I was very focused on each and every word. That helped me pronounce properly and read fluently. I also learned how regular reading improves our reading skills and vocabulary. The session motivated me to make reading a daily habit. In the end, I would like to say that it was a very informative and enjoyable meeting, and I am excited to be a part of this learning journey.

Learning Beyond Words: A Day of Inspiration and Growth - Sunbeam School Ballia

Jai Hind, dear readers

Today’s Good School Alliance session, conducted by Jugjiv Sir and Manisha Ma’am, was truly enlightening and inspiring. Jugjiv Sir read and explained the story “The Door-to-Door Bookstore” in a very expressive and engaging manner. The story beautifully conveyed the power of reading and how books can shape our imagination and personality.

The story revolves around Carl Konrad Koreander, a passionate bookstore owner, whose shop is filled with rare and magical books. One day, a young boy named Bastian visits his store and discovers that books are not just pages with words, but gateways to imagination, wisdom, and self-discovery. Through their interaction, the story highlights how reading can open our minds, deepen our understanding, and make us see the world differently.

Throughout the session, Sir guided us in learning the correct pronunciation and meanings of several difficult words. This helped improve our reading fluency and vocabulary. The interactive discussion and thoughtful questions encouraged us to think critically and share our interpretations, which made the session both educational and enjoyable.

From this experience, I understood that regular reading not only enhances our language skills but also strengthens our concentration, creativity, and empathy. Books truly are our best companions, helping us learn, grow, and dream beyond boundaries.

In conclusion, today’s session was deeply motivating, informative, and memorable. It has inspired me to make reading a daily habit and to explore more meaningful stories that enrich both mind and heart.

Reflection on today's session✨

Today's session was very inspiring and knowledgeable for everyone. In the first session, Jugiv Singh sir had read a book named "The Book To Book Store" in which we have learnt a lot of new words, and also this improved my vocabulary and some English.

In the second session we were having Manisha Khanna ma'am who told us about the "Ruskin Bond" story and the story name was  "char pankhudiyan" and also at the beginning of the story we played a short quiz about Ruskin Bond in the quiz she asked us some unique things about Ruskin Bond life and asked the questions related to that and the story was about four friends. At last, Sandeep sir told us very nice and good things, and also motivated us to move forward in our lives. I am really thankful to have this opportunity to have such a great platform for learning new things, to have motivation from all the members of My Good School ๐ŸŒบ.

I thank Sandeep sir, Jugiv  sir and Manisha ma'am for taking today's great session

Today’s Good School Session✨

Today's session was truly inspiring and informative. In the first session with Jugjiv Sir, we learned how to pronounce words correctly and use punctuation marks effectively through reading reflections and the book “The Door to Door Bookstore.” This activity significantly improved my vocabulary and communication skills.

The second session with Manisha Ma’am was equally enriching. She read us the story “เคšाเคฐ เคชंเค–ुเคก़िเคฏां” (Four Petals) written by Ruskin Bond. The story revolved around four friends who were mistaken for kidnappers while trying to care for a small child. We also enjoyed an engaging quiz that deepened our understanding of Ruskin Bond’s works. The session was truly interactive and fun.

One key takeaway that resonated with me was the importance of avoiding impulsive decisions, especially when we are emotional. This valuable lesson has left a lasting impact, and I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to learn.๐ŸŒธ

Thank you, Manisha Ma’am and Jugjiv Sir, for such a thought-provoking session.๐Ÿ’ซ

The Beautiful Mess of Friendships- Maira Jalan

In this ever-evolving and changing world, Shikha Ma’am talked about the importance of real and genuine friendships and how they shape you into the person you are today. In a world where hustle culture has become really common, friends teach us how important it is to balance fun with productivity and make the most out of this precious little life.

You all must have heard the phrase, "Quality over Quantity," which is a major part of true friendships. Instead of boasting about having a hundred online friends, the importance of those two true friends who always have your back no matter what was clearly highlighted by Ma’am. They see through the flaws in you and still want to be a part of your life story.

Real friends would never leave you stranded, even if they themselves earn a scolding from the teacher (but at least we were together in this mess).

Agreed, friendships are messy, confusing, and sometimes a major headache, but I promise you, in the end, it’s all worth it. Friendships are the mess you never knew you needed in your life.

They will sometimes be the ones getting your focus back on the right path, but sometimes the ones deviating you. No matter what, they are never going to disrespect your choices. Of course, they are different individuals, so you can’t expect them to always agree with your opinion or make the same choices as you—but that’s what makes friendships such a big life lesson in negotiation and adjustment, full of fun, happiness, and, of course, fights along the way.

There is no right or wrong way of approaching friendships, but we all should know how to identify who our true friends are and who are…well…just acquaintances. Shikha Ma’am made this easier for us as well.

Today’s session was truly engaging and thought-provoking (especially because of those really difficult Q&As—but hey! I’m not complaining).
