Is it what we do that matters or the attitude behind it? - Rishona Chopra

PC- Medium
"Hard work"-  the term says a lot in itself. It talks about "working hard". It's doing the things you do with full dedication and perseverance. It is about exploring and going out of your comfort zone and doing those things with full dedication. Hard work isn't limited to being industrious but also to branching out and challenging yourself to do something new and "hard " for you.

A very common situation is related to our studies. I personally have my own likes and dislikes for school subjects but then you can't leave a subject you don't like. Even if it's something that you absolutely dislike, one has to do it. Now, even if one works hard and studies that one subject diligently, a very important thing is the attitude we do it with. Do we do it for the sake of marks or do we do it because we know it's vital and because we are eager to learn?

Our attitude towards something changes our perception towards it and improves the quality of our work. Not just now, in our school years but also in our future endeavours. It's not just what we do, it's the intention behind it. One can work in a profession of service and help several others but is that person in that profession for the money and fame behind it or because they really care? The intentions not only show in our quality of work but also affect our state of well-being.

While studying something that differs from one's interest, if we find little joy in doing it, then it may become easy for us!

In life, things can never always go the way we want them to go. People are different, their thoughts are different and so are their actions. The only thing in our control is our actions, thoughts and feelings. The feeling of co-operation and an optimistic learning attitude is what creates the difference.

It's the difference in our attitude that makes "hard work" not so hard after all!

Classics or present-day creations? - Rishona Chopra

Graphic by Rishona Chopra

Are oldies better than the music and movies of today?

That is one of the biggest debates today. Both of them are unique in their own way but I believe that there is something special about classics and oldies. As intriguing and modern the latest creations are, oldies seem to bring family together. As a millennial of Gen Z, I usually watch/listen to the latest creations but watching classics is a refreshment for the mind. It reminds one of the time when things were simpler and life was less hectic.

The past can be a great source of inspiration and old music is a wonderful way to access it. Moreover, old music has stood the test of time. It has been around for decades and even centuries and it popularity is a testament of how great it is. Yes, there are changes in the world but that doesn't mean we forget the past and the old. Old is NOT gold. It's vital to accept and look at latest creations too but immediate dislike for the classics isn't great either.

Labeling classics as "boring" is completely one's choice but often we just neglect it directly without even taking a look at oldies. The most popular songs today are in fact remixes of earlier classics. Popular artists have taken inspiration from several classics such as "These are a few of my favourite things" , "Do re mi fa so la ti" and literature pieces like "The Great Gatsby".

One of my favorite classics is definitely Mary Poppins. I honestly haven't watched that many classics but 1964 Mary Poppins tops for me. It is a fictional story but it indeed has a lot to teach. First of all, it teaches us to live life. Life is a gift and even despite the tough and rough times, it's always good to keep a positive attitude in life. It also teaches us to be kind and not judge people. Mary Poppins did receive a little opposition from the children's father but that didn't bring her down because she was confident and did what was right. One of my favourite parts about it is the unique use of words. "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" is that word that brings a smile to my face when I say it. For me, it carries a cheerful vibe all together.

As interesting and full of mystery and excitement the  new creations are, I don't believe that they carry some meaningful lessons with them but of course if we are young teenagers who are combating other evil people and plan on saving the world then sure they do have some advice.

To conclude, I would say that its good to sometimes look back and see some interesting and appealing classics like "Mary Poppins" or "Sound Of Music". Their simple stories stirred with a drop of magic are heart warming.

The antidote for the Retirement Disease - Rishona Chopra

When people retire, they initially struggle. Letting go of the tight work schedules, being used to doing much work, and suddenly no work at all is rather hard. It's somewhat like going back to school after a month of holidays. It's the least exciting day as all you want to do is just relax more. But here, in the case of retirement, all you want to do is just work more. Keep yourself busy with some work or the other. At this point, most start feeling rather anxious. And you can't blame them; Their whole routine has been changed!

Gone are the days when they worked day and night, now all they can do is do some chores here and relax. Being used to having meetings and calls all day, it is hard to cope with the fact that now your phone is no longer filled with a hundred unread messages and missed calls. That is in fact why I don't prefer to use the word "disease" for this. It's simply a phase of life like any other. The antidote for this retirement "disease" is "Purpose". Having a purpose means having a new goal to achieve and that means keeping busy and getting rid of the Retirement Disease. And something that happens after retirement is that you can just do things for yourself. Yes, we always feel the need to show to others what we did and do but that's when we are free to do anything for our own happiness. Everyone already has a purpose and we just need to find it. Anything of interest that appeals to you and seems to give you joy can be called your true calling or rather a purpose that keeps your mind energized. Rishona Chopra Grade VII Gyanshree School

Importance of Taking Risk ! And many more - Sunbeam School Lahartara

Reflections from the Sunday School

Importance Of Taking Risks

Taking risks is important because it builds our knowledge. Taking risks is something that we all have to do in our lives. Sometimes, taking risks is essential; it builds our confidence and makes us better than if we never took them. Because it brings a good change and helps us learn. Taking risks is a core element of human life. Failure and mistakes are common when taking risks. We should not be afraid because we will realise instead and become successful men eventually.

My good school is a place to learn good things and morals. For me, it is always exciting to attend the sessions of good schools. Tata Stories inspire me to do something unique in life. It gives me the passion to carry forward any work with sustainability and longevity. Like Sandeep sir said, age is just a number, and we should dream big and achieve big.

A dream is not something you see when you sleep; a dream doesn't let you sleep. Dreams, the nocturnal symphony of the mind, transport us to realms unknown. As we surrender to the embrace of sleep, the subconscious weaves tapestries of imagination and emotion. In this ethereal dance, the boundaries of reality blur, and the mind becomes a canvas for the surreal and fantastical. Dreams are the silent storytellers, narrating tales that defy logic and gravity, where the mundane transforms into the extraordinary. Each night, we embark on odysseys of the mind, encountering phantoms of the past and visions of the future.

Life Is A Game Of Chess - The Game Of Life - Oshi Singh

Image courtesy https://www.pinterest.com, used by Oshi Singh for representation only.

In this universe, there is nothing more unpredictable than life itself. Yes, indeed, just a four-letter word: life.

Life is very uncanny. Life is a gamble. Life is a game of chess, a game which shall prevail. We’ll never know what’s coming but are always yet to find out. Just when we feel ‘comfortable’, we’ll notice danger. We never know what’s the right move, yet we always try. Things keep changing. After all, nothing is permanent, but we always get a chance. A chance to try and give our best.

It has been rightly and very beautifully said by the famous Cuban chess player José Raúl Capablanca, ‘You may learn much more from a game you lose than from a game you win. You must lose hundreds of games before becoming a good player.’

People often say chess is a game of tactics and strategies but I differ. I don’t think that’s completely true. I believe chess and life are long-lost twins. No matter our plans or how well-planned they are, there is always a catch to it. It can be anything, anytime, but don’t ever stop trying because even though life may have some other plans, there are always new avenues and new chapters waiting to be unveiled.

So, in this unreliable game of life, always be open to change and, most importantly, always ready for challenges. Life will keep throwing pawns upon us, but our aim should be clear until we checkmate all these obstacles. After all, actions speak louder than words, and our only word should be “Checkmate”.

My Contributions To Change The World - Nishan Karki

“Those who are happiest are those who do the most for others.” – Booker T. Washington.

Today's world needs a change. There are many disparities among people. One hates others on grounds of caste, religion, colour, gender, etc. To end all these disparities, people's support and contributions are required. If these disparities end, the world will become peaceful. There will be no chaos.

Even one person can make a great impact. Many people contribute to changing the world. I also want to be one of these people. I want to see the world changing. For this, I want to make all the possible contributions.

I would like to make the following contributions to change the world:-
  • It is correctly said by someone that education is the most powerful weapon to change the world. So, take and give education.
  • We should do small acts of kindness. Even a tiny kind word can warm three winter months. Similarly, even small acts of kindness can have an everlasting impact on people. I want that impact to start with me.
  • Protection of the Environment has been a matter of great concern in today's world. Environmentalists strive to protect ecosystems from harmful human activities. We can live peacefully only if there is a safe and conducive environment. I would like to contribute to this field. I also want to tell people about the effects of pollution and the ways to reduce it.
  • Instead of spending money on unnecessary things, I would like to donate money to charity. Many people donate a large amount of money to charity. For example, Bill Gates, Ratan Tata, Warren Buffett, Shiv Nadar, etc. It is a good way of helping poor and needy people.
  • I would like to spend more time with people and talk with them about changing the world. It will also help me utilise my time instead of wasting time unnecessarily.
I have mentioned above that even one person can make a great impact. Don’t wait for a very long time; start the things to change the world. Make your contributions. Give your 100%. It starts with you. If you do not start now, you will never be ahead.

"All people have equal value" - Nishan Karki

Reflection from Sunday School

All lives have equal value. And so you say, 'Why do poor children die when other children don't? Why do some people have enough nutrition or reasonable toilets and other people don't?' So those basic needs that, through innovation, actually it's very affordable to bring them...to everyone.

~Bill Gates

Everyone in the world possesses many values. We, people, are the most intelligent beings created by God. God created us as social beings who can communicate, think, walk, eat, play and work by ourselves. God has provided us with many qualities like humanity, loyalty, kindness, honesty, compassion etc. We can look out for ourselves, do our work independently and do many more things. These qualities that we possess, make us unique, unlike animals and other creatures. They may possess some qualities, but not as many as we possess. Despite differences in region, birthplace, class, financial position, gender, age, caste, language and custom, people have equal values.

We may be rich, middle class or poor, but the value we possess are the same. We should use and show our values at the right time, place and situation. I have an example for this context- "There is a homeless guy, sitting on the side of a street. Two men were walking down the street, one poor and one wealthy. Despite being a wealthy man, he is rude and hard-hearted, unlike the poor, who is kind and generous. The rich man did not give attention to the homeless and walked away. But the poor man, in an instant, saw him and decided to help him. He went to a nearby shop and bought some food. He gave him food and a little money and spent time with him. The homeless guy thanked him. His eyes were all filled with tears."

This example shows that the poor guy has shown his value as a person and helped the homeless guy with some food and money. Thus we should use our values at the right time, place and situation. We should not hesitate to help someone in distress and difficulties because even a small help can change someone's life.

I believe that all lives have equal value. That all men and women are created equal. That everyone belongs. That everyone has rights, and everyone has the right to flourish. I believe that when people who are bound by the rules have no role in shaping the rules, moral blind spots become law, and the powerless bear the burden. ... I believe that entrenched social norms that shift society’s benefits to the powerful and its burdens to the powerless not only hurt the people pushed out but also always hurt the whole.

~Melinda Gates

People are more important than things - Tenzin Jambey

Reflection from Sunday School

Some people will choose expensive things, luxury items and valuable commodities over human beings, and some will give more importance to humans than any other things, even over the bag of gold and diamond. We all know very well that everyone is not the same. And therefore, one person can not change or bring goodness to others. First, we should be one to improvise our mindset, and we should be the ones to bring a good change in ourselves.

It is so true that people who have been close to death always give importance to other humans. These people respect all classes of people- from young to old and from poor to rich. I still remember the tragedy of my uncle, who once almost lost his life after being stuck under a rock while working. Nowadays, he is earning his life by serving as a driver. He has a very kind heart. He respects everyone. And sometimes he gives a free ride to the labours and workers as he has also been a labour and he knows their conditions of working and the level of physical hard work they do.

If we are kind to others, then goodness comes to us through 'Karma'. When we give others love, care and importance, we get it all back from others. Having a great affection towards earthly things like gold and diamond would make your heart much like coal. But if you give importance and are affectionate towards humans, your work and contribution will always be remembered and told. It is not only the humans to whom we should give importance but also the animals, plants and our mother Earth, as in this world, everything is interconnected to each other in some way or the other.

At last, I want to bring up a powerful thought to acknowledgement- "When we were born the world rejoiced while we cried. Therefore, do a work that the world will cry when you die with rejoicing and happiness”.

A Cause That Is Dear To Me - Keyura Rao Cheeti

Reflection from reading the book.

Everyone is connected and moved by what is happening around them. They must decide if they need to take up a cause and bring about change. They are reasons for action to be taken or action to happen. For something good to happen, the cause needs to be good too. It gives us a reason to live. I have thought about this since a very young age. My heart aches to see poor people begging on the road. Older people are beggars too. They have a right to live happily, too. I would like to set up a charity for them when I get older. In the charity, people will donate money, clothes, food etc. We will provide them with good education and ensure they get a job to live independently. We will set a small goal first, and if we achieve that, we move on to completing something bigger, thereby trying and making sure that they have a good life. They need to live as peacefully as we do. We must take care of them as our responsibility as good citizens. We can educate others on how to help them.

Advice From An Owl - Rishona Chopra

Hello, my dear friends! I am an owl. Through all these years, I have been sitting right outside your window, looking and observing you. My family is out there, hearing each of your foolish conversations and looking out for those creative inventions of yours. Speaking of inventions, I must say, your inventions clearly show your witty evil brain. First, it was those nets and then it was those obnoxious guns. Why, do you have nothing better to do than to kill us?

Moving on, as I told you I have noticed you and I believe it's time I give you some inputs. First off, you humans speak too much. It is much better to listen trust me. Wherever you go, you keep talking; half of it is absolute nonsense. And even if you talk, you forget to hear. Many of you just hear the other person and don't really listen. You just stay quiet waiting for your turn to talk and running through your mind what you're going to say. My! That is quite disrespectful, isn't it!

Second of all, you have made your life quite difficult. All you do is practically sleep all day. Nothing like what we do! You have robots doing your work, the autocorrect correcting your spellings and online dictionaries to tell you the meaning. And don't even get me started on your means of entertainment. Our owl community presents an entire dance for entertainment and all you do is just turn on your television and watch some overly dramatic shows on it. How many of you, go to watch classical dances for entertainment or have a cosy family night playing charades and cards?

Television is quite fascinating, I must say. I also watch it from your balcony when the curtains are open but it's important to spend time with your family doing something fun together.

Last but not least, you should always be prepared. Most of you are not prepared for change. Here's one owl rule you must know - Always be alert for your predator. And your predator is almighty change. It is something some of you never adapt to but remember change in constant and if there is no change life would be rather dull and boring!

The Change - Reveda Bhatt

A point in my life that brought out my inner strength and made me believe that “I am capable” was what people hailed me as a fighter, one even I didn’t know of. Rolling the rim of my life back to the start of 2019, when I was a child scared of all imaginary beasts and darkness, only after I went into darkness did the change take place-When I went into a COMA.

This was due to an accident my Mom and I met, wherein Mom was injured, and mine, getting back alive, doubted. It was like this typical suspenseful thriller going on! One day, I got better but could get worse the other! But COMA in English, too, refers nearly to a comma, which has it saying, “There’s more!” So, I fought back, knowing it was not the end. It wasn’t before maybe 3 weeks that I opened my eyes.

Surgeries, injuries, follow-ups-I saw all that. In comparison, if I were still that child, afraid, I wouldn’t have made it so, you know, life puts you down, but you’ve got to stand up because those who do-they come out with the title, “A hero,” the other case, I won’t define.

Now, when I recovered fully, everybody praised me. I realised how precious this life is and started honouring every moment because who knows what’s next? I fought the dark, death and came out, and if it weren’t for it, even I wouldn’t have known who I really am!

Recovering from any injury just feels like a piece of cake when you’ve got scars on your body, well, I wouldn’t even call them scars but bravery marks, reminding me each time, “You can do it!”

The incident here is what I really feel thankful for because it showed me the light. Never in my life had I thought that I would be hailed as a hero because everybody fights, but only a few come out victorious.

I am responsible for... - Rishona Chopra

There are quite a few things we have control over. We often try to grasp something we cannot control. We notice and try to change others, their habits and choices. When, in reality, we only have control over ourselves. Another aspect is understanding that we are responsible for ourselves. Our decisions are purely ours.

Often, we try to blame others for our reactions. If I submit my project late, I blame the internet, but was it really the internet's fault that it stopped working and that my project was lost? Should I have been more proactive and worked on an offline platform or saved my work?

I have also noticed that I start blaming others for my own mistakes unconsciously without realising it.

When we get sick, do we not blame the weather for changing? Do we think that our immunity should have been stronger? Do we think that this weather change is caused by us humans only? Most of us blame the weather as if it is controlled by someone, not us.

Life is like a book, and we are the author. The book takes a turn of events, but it all happens before the author, and the conclusion is the author's choice. Several characters in that book influence and help in the formation of the story, but it is the author's thinking that makes the difference.

I am responsible for whatever I do and any action I take. I am responsible for myself.

My graduation speech at school - Rishona Chopra

Good morning my fellow graduates!

I stand before you on this special day to give my parting speech. This school has opened up several opportunities for me. Everything had unique value, from exams to lunch, sports to competitions, and left me with priceless learning.

I've made some beautiful and memorable memories in this school. The fun of running out of the class for the sports class, the nervousness and happiness in the annual day practice, the excitement of seeing the science labs for the first time, the peppiness of travelling for a school trip and the agitation during my exams. It all mattered to me a lot and made quite a difference.

One of the decisions that really made a significant change was joining My Good School. It helped me a lot and opened many doors for me.

This journey wouldn't have been so incredible without all my teachers supporting me at every step. So thank you to all my teachers who have guided me. Yes, I've had tough and challenging times, but life isn't that fun without its ups and downs!

I would like to thank my exceptional parents, who sent me to this beautiful school and opened this extensive window.

The memories I made in this school and the learning I took away will always be a big part of my life, and I will never forget them.

Today, we are at a turning point in our lives, and I hope this will be the best turn we have ever made!

Thank you!

Reflection on the experience of changing schools - Aayushma Gaha

We know that we go to school not only to learn subjects but we learn new skills as well as social skills. Sometimes we change our school because, for some reason, it might be because of money issues or the school being far or needing more attention for studies. It can be many reasons.

My experience of changing a school. Earlier I was in Carman School currently I am studying in Cambrian Hall. The reason behind changing schools was because of not getting much attention in school and in Carman School there was not much opportunity for any skills or for sports. When I changed schools I was both, happy and sad. I was sad because I had made many friends and was quite popular in school because of my academics as well as Athletics. When I said popular it is kind of praising ourselves but it was true. However, there was not that much athletics.

The reason I was happy was because I was going to meet many more people. As we say that we people think, of new possibilities and in Cambrian Hall, there are sports and also academics. Now it has been one month already and has communicated with teachers and made many friends.

My experience of changing schools was really good and sometimes I think that every year we should change our school and we would learn many new things!

Light the candle - Rishona Chopra

We all aim for change, but why do we always look and aim for the sky? Why don't we look around and notice the changes needed around us?

Many have progressed towards changes, massive changes whose impact is left noticed. Have we cleared the ground before aiming for the sky? We make changes that are called "a benefit", but those changes affect the ground effect of Mother Earth. We all think of infrastructural changes but have we noticed that Mother Earth is the one that needs the change? We don't need the changes that worsen the state of mother Earth.

Can we light the candle to save something we depend on more than anything and everything? When Mother Earth did nothing but give, can we at least put effort into a thank you? If everyone lights one candle, the entire Earth will shine.

Something I want to change in myself and how ? - Pestalozzi World

My first thought was to change something physical – and magically drop some extra weight I had gained. But honestly, I think even more than that, I would like to become more organised. And if I could change that, I could finally start to exercise and lose weight, too! ☺️ - Januka Basnet

I would like to change my behaviour because I sometimes behave rudely to others when I get angry. If I change this habit, I will be more friendly with others rather than fighting with them over small things. It can only be done by keeping myself calm and ignoring the actions that make me angry.  - Manisha Rana

I always want to change my every bad into good, including my habits, goals, situation etc. I want to be more friendly with others and never misunderstand others. I want to be happier by searching for happiness in every moment, and also I want to live a simple and confidential life. I will do these things by cooperating with every worst situation and overcoming any obstacle that I face in my life.  - Nishan Karki

When I think about things I want to change about myself, I first think of my behaviour towards other people. I have asked my friends to describe me so that if there is something which needs to be changed, I can change it. So what they have said is that I make other people do my work, which I often do when I don't feel like doing it. I request the other person to do that work for me. And always asking others to do you isn't nice when you actually think about it, so I am trying to change it and be more independent. Though I am still determining how much time it would take me to completely change.  - Sonam Lhamo

I have many things I want to change in myself, like my habits and my behaviour. Sometimes when I am angry, I become very rude to people. I don't feel like talking to anyone, and when they try to talk to me, I speak anything without even thinking. I just can't control my anger and want to change that behaviour. I am trying to change it by thinking before I speak, and I will try to control my anger. One more thing I want to change in myself is to improve my studies. I will give more time to my studies. - Anchal Mehra

Something I wanna change in myself and how? - Tenzin Nyingsel

I've always wanted to be confident that I can always stand out for myself without hesitation.

Anxiety has always been the worst problem that could ever happen to me, and the time that happens, overthinking starts, my hands start shaking, and the words from my mouth become quiet.

To overcome those situations, many workshops have been done in our Village provided by Pestalozzi so that we could work on our public speaking skills, which is very important for us both in present and future. So I'm looking forward to improving that thing in myself so that I won't hesitate next time whenever I'm speaking or communicating with anyone.

There are many things I want to change in myself, like improving my speaking skills and the body language I use. Will try improving them by pushing them again and again. I have many other habits like I support the people I am close to, but sometimes when I require them to help me, they just show their back. To improve this habit, I think I shouldn't support anyone without knowing the case properly so that I don't have to regret my mistakes.

Okay, hold up for a moment, sitting and typing as I do here. Now, ask yourself - “Why do I strive so hard?”

It’s like the human mind constantly strives for something or the other. We set a bull’s eye to aim at, but once we reach there, it’s the end of one manly desire but the start of another; we may call it the endless cycle of desire.

Some strive too hard to earn “enough” money, but once they earn it, it never seems enough. As we keep on progressing, so make our desires progress. Some work hard round the clock to gain respect, that too by their power, but bet you knew that even the greatest people around the world have some people who praise them continuously upfront but stab them behind their backs!

So, my friends, why? Why do we strive to prove ourselves in front of such toxic people?

The moments that pass are precious, and, to be honest, when I am here, I just do what I wish - study only when I want, and write only when I feel like there’s a need to. You know, living in the moment. Well, that’s damn true because otherwise, the world is superficial, and the people are superficial, but the least I can do is make sure I am true to myself!

This is because if everyone, as a matter of fact, everything in this world loses its originality, we’ll all be fake, and that’s a nightmare.

Okay, I agree, it went way off-so. Coming back, just take a deep breath and search for your originality before it’s too late and it’s dumped under your foolish pile of personalities.

A chameleon is made to change colours, not humans! Just move along your way truly and see what the future holds.

The Right Vision - Rishona Chopra

In Chinese folklore, there is the story of an ambitious young man who, on his twentieth birthday, became consumed with the desire to change the world. He spent the next 20 years trying to do that but couldn’t. At age 40, he settled for trying to change China. He spent the next 20 years trying to do that but couldn’t. At age 60, he settled for trying to change his village. For the next 20 years, he tried to do that but failed. At age 80, he decided to focus on changing his family. He spent the next 20 years trying to do that but couldn’t. At age 100, he decided to focus on changing himself. But the next day, he died.
We often try to change the world and others according to us, but we never try to change ourselves. But why? Because it is easier. It is easier to find faults with others, but it is difficult to
change ourselves.
